Vil S. Vaitas, P. E.. and Associates is a technical and business consulting firm specializing in facilitating U.S.- Lithuania (the southernmost of the three Baltic states) private sector business, investment and trade relations. It is based in Fairfax, Virginia, with associates here in the U.S. and Europe.

Our firm researches, evaluates import, export, investment and other business opportunities for our clients here and overseas. We provide full range of supporting services, such as business or product representation, promotion, market or product research, advertising, public and government relations, and Lithuanian-English, English-Lithuanian translation and interpreter services. We track, maintain and publish comprehensive statistical and other information on Lithuania, its government, politics, economy, industry, imports, exports, business and investment environment, travel and other relevant data. We also conduct specific economic, technical studies and archival property, genealogical and other public records research within Lithuania.

Vil S. Vaitas, P.E., and Associates was established in 1992 by Mr. Vil S. Vaitas, a professional engineer and a business economist, upon his retirement after twenty-eight years of distinguished U.S. Government service. He formed this company with the principal goal of applying his knowledge of business development concepts and requirements to assist American firms to gain a foothold in the newly opened East European markets and, at the same time, to facilitate the economic change and recovery there by bringing some sorely needed investments and creating opportunities for bilateral trade.

After initial investigation of political and economic conditions of the various newly independent East European countries indicated a wide variance of conditions and even greater variance in their progress or commitment to democratization, privatization and free trade, it became obvious that for a small professional firm it was impossible to develop the needed expertise and contacts in all of these countries. Therefore it was decided to limit our activity to Baltic coast region with special emphasis on Lithuania.

Since 1992 in pursuit of this prime business objective Vil S. Vaitas, P. E. and Associates established close contacts with Lithuanian national and local government authorities, organizations and commercial entities. We have established agency ties with Lithuanian nationals and businesses in Klaipeda, Kaunas and Vilnius. We investigated and assessed numerous investment and sales prospects for U.S. firms and, in turn, have interfaced with U.S. firms and number of their European subsidiaries on behalf of our Baltic clients. In addition we have produced several in depth economic studies for an international lending institution.

Vil S. Vaitas is the principal and managing associate of the firm. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from Tufts University and a Master of Arts Degree in Economics with minor in Urban Planning from Michigan State University. To further broaden his education he also studied at George Washington and George Mason Universities, taking additional postgraduate courses in commercial law and economics. His 36 year government career included active and reserve commissioned service in the U.S. Navy , U.S. Small Business Administration , U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. House of Representatives, Michigan State Highway Department and City of Benton Harbor.

In the last ten years, Mr. Vaitas has spent in aggregate more than a year in Lithuania developing personal contacts within the Lithuanian business community, state and local government, news media, academia and political establishment. During the 2000 parliamentary elections campaign he personally advised and assisted one of the rising center-right political groups. As a result of his experiences in Lithuania he has developed a uniquely broad base of contacts and gained an in-depth expertise in all aspects of Lithuanian social, economic and political life.
